Shortcuts to Life

Telecommuting was elusive for years before 2001. When work could easily be completed off-site, why not allow me complete assignments where I want?

Now that telecommuting has become more common in this always-connected, mobile-friendly world, I can answer that question in 2016. The healthy boundaries between work and play become blurred; I'm often expected to respond to an email 24x7. Working from home is socially very isolating; I go to the gym just for human interaction. Also when working on a fast-moving project from home, I miss decisions and information shared at the office; it's easy to get left out of the loop unintentionally.
